Computer Engineers - Not very popular?

While I was researching for famous computer engineers in response to the prompt for this blog, it was (and still is) somewhat difficult. Yes, while there are many popular computer software engineers like John McAfee, Kevin Systrom, and Dustin Moskovitz, they don't exactly hit the nail on the head.

Who I did find however was Linus Torvalds. Torvalds, while still not a total computer engineer, is the creator of Linux; the free operating system kernel. For a little bit of context, Linux is an operating system, similar to Windows and iOS, however it differs in the fact that it puts no restrictions on the hardware that you use, the apps that you download, etc. It also focuses on security and stability, in comparison to the other two who's main priority is ease of use.

Currently, Torvalds works as a software engineer. He attended and graduated from the University of Helsinki in 1988 with a master's degree in Computer Science. Because of his claim to fame, Torvalds never had difficulty finding a job out of college, and didn't go through any internships or programs in order to get one.

If I had to describe Linus Torvalds in 5 words, it'd have to be, "Who Needs Windows and Gates?". This is taken directly from a famous quote of his when talking in reference to Linux in comparison to Windows (the full quote being "In a world without fences, who needs windows and gates?").

Personally, I admire almost every aspect of Torvalds career path since it was all so casual. He worked on Linux as a hobby project in college, frustrated with the service that Microsoft provided with Windows. From there, he began to lead the Linux project in order to provide a better experience for all those who used his software.
